Commitment to Achieving Net Zero

Cinos Limited is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2047.

Baseline Emissions Footprint

Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases that have been produced in the past and were produced prior to the introduction of any strategies to reduce emissions. Baseline emissions are the reference point against which emissions reduction can be measured.

Baseline Year: 2022
Additional Details relating to the Baseline Emissions calculations.
The baseline emissions are based on data from calendar year December 2021 – December 2022. The baseline calculation includes Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3.

We will track and measure our carbon footprint and deliver on our Carbon Reduction Plan, with the intention of achieving Net Zero emissions by 2047 in line with PPN 06/21.

Baseline year emissions:
Emissions Total (tCO2e)
Scope 1 136
Scope 2 31.7
Scope 3
(included sources)
2,507.23

(Note: Our Carbon Calculator combines Upstream Transportation and Downstream Transportation under one category – Freight. We are in the process of working to split this data down further but confirm that both are included in this single figure.)

Emissions Reduction Targets

2023 is the second year that Cinos have measured our carbon emissions and produced a Carbon Reduction Plan. During this year Cinos and our supply chain have refined carbon data collection, thus increasing the level of carbon data available. As such, whilst it appears that carbon emissions in Scope 1 and Scope 3 have increased, the change represents an increase in the accuracy of carbon reporting within both Cinos and our supply chain and not necessarily an increase in our carbon output.

In addition, in 2022 (our baseline year) the volume of travel within the business was still somewhat impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2023 we have seen a return to pre-COVID levels of Business Travel and Employee Commuting which will have contributed to the increase in travel and in turn, carbon emissions, resetting the volume of travel to a more representative figure for our business going forward.

In 2024 we will be engaging a partner to support us with carbon accounting to enable us with a new reporting methodology and a more rigorous carbon accounting process, set to present us with a more accurate view of our real baseline emissions. In addition, we also anticipate improvements in carbon reporting from our supply chain (For example, we anticipate Scope 3 emissions for freight to become more accurate in the coming year due to actions being taken by our distribution partners to more accurately record and report on carbon emissions through their operations including freight). With this in mind, we anticipate the data to be further refined enough so, that it will be appropriate for us to re-baseline our carbon output in line with ISO14001 and GHG Protocols next year.

With the changes in place, we believe that we can reach Net Zero carbon in line with our previous targets once we have consistent data sources and reporting on carbon emissions in our business and supply chain.

In order to progress to achieving Net Zero, we have adopted the following carbon reduction targets.

We project that carbon emissions will decrease over the next five years to 2,110 tCO2e by 2027.  This is a reduction of 21%.

Longer term, we aim to make the following carbon reductions to be able to meet Net Zero by 2047:

  • 2032 – Decrease to 1,548.6 – This is a reduction of 26.6%

  • 2037 – Decrease to 987.90 – This is a reduction of 36.2%
  • 2042 – Decrease to 427.20 – This is a reduction of 56.8%
  • 2047 – Decrease to Zero – This is a reduction of 100%

Carbon reduction targets are shown in the graph below:

Carbon Reduction Projects

To reduce Carbon Emissions in the next 5 years, Cinos plan to undertake the following activities:

  • Partnering with an emissions measurement application to deliver more accurate carbon reporting into the business and identifying more specific areas for reduction.

  • Working with Supply Chain to drive industry wide actions to improve recording and reporting on emissions. For example: As a result of supply chain demand, our distribution partners will be using an accessible portal to report on carbon emissions in their operations more accurately and transparently.
  • Support Employees to use Low Impact Transport.
  • Switch to renewable electricity.
  • Install solar panels.
  • Incentivise employees to buy Electric Vehicles (EVs) for commuting to work.
  • Install fleet driving efficiency systems.
  • Development and maintenance of an Environmental Management System to maintain our ISO14001 accreditation.

  • Flexible and remote working facilitated through technology, and accessible to all employees to reduce office travel.

  • We will be constantly evolving and adding Carbon Reduction activities into our operations in line with our accreditation to ISO14001 to ensure that we are able to meet our Net Zero target by 2047.

In future we hope to implement further measures such as:

  • Forming an ESG working group with carbon reduction as a key area, to continuously develop and introduce carbon reduction actions.
  • Introducing more carbon offset measures.
  • Delivering carbon literacy training to all employees.
