Job Purpose
The DevOps Engineer is responsible for building, maintaining, and scaling the infrastructure, tooling, and automation that supports the company’s digital services and platforms. The role will ensure high availability, scalability, and performance of core systems, working closely with development and technical teams.
This role plays a critical part in ensuring platform reliability, scalability, and secure delivery of services that power mission-critical applications across our customer base.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate with development teams to design and implement scalable, fault-tolerant solutions.
Maintain and evolve infrastructure-as-code using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, and Packer.
Manage container orchestration environments, primarily using Kubernetes (EKS).
Monitor and improve CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI) to support efficient and secure delivery.
Configure and maintain observability tools (e.g. Datadog) for monitoring, logging, and alerting.
Enhance disaster recovery, redundancy, and capacity planning mechanisms.
Support Linux-based environments and virtualised services (e.g., Ubuntu, CentOS).
Research and implement improvements in architecture and engineering practices.
Participate in incident response, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis.
Ensure compliance with company policies and health and safety regulations.
Complete mandatory internal training modules via the company’s learning platform.
Skills & Experience
Essential
Strong background in DevOps, Site Reliability, or Platform Engineering.
Proficiency in AWS cloud infrastructure (minimum of VPC, EC2, EKS, S3, RDS, IAM, Route 53, and Elasticache,) although other platforms and counterparts acceptible.
Experience with containerisation and orchestration tools: Docker, Kubernetes, Helm.
Familiarity with Linux system administration.
Hands-on experience with infrastructure automation using Terraform, Ansible, and Packer.
Experience with CI/CD systems, especially GitLab CI.
Observability tools: Datadog (or equivalent: Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch, Loki).
Experience in scripting or programming languages (e.g., Go, Bash, Python).
Ability to work effectively in Agile development teams.
Strong communication, analytical, and time management skills.
Desirable
Exposure to alternative cloud platforms (Azure, GCP).
Experience with virtualised networking (e.g., Direct Connect, VPC Peering).
Familiarity with mobile platform integration or backend systems (Laravel, Vue.js).
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Relevant certifications (e.g., AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, CKA/CKAD) are advantageous.
Working Conditions
Fully remote working with flexibility. Occasional travel required for team meetings or client visits (advance notice provided). Core working hours are 9:00am–5:30pm UK time, with flexibility depending on team needs.
